CIRCULAR No. 30/10/2026/43 4-7-2026 To Office Bearers, State Federations and All India Bankwise
Federations, All unions
Dear Comrades,
**AIBEA’s Delegation to participate in Ceylon Bank Employees Union Conference**
All our units are aware that AIBEA and Ceylon Bank Employees Union, Sri Lanka have fraternal relations for the past five decades. Ceylon Bank Employees Union is equally a historic trade union like AIBEA.
During British colonial rule, employees working in the Banks in that country (also) were subjected to all types and oppressive and suppressive attitude of managements and their conditions became worse due to the adverse social and economic conditions due to World War II. In this background, few courageous bank employees felt the need for a trade union and “Bank Clerks Union” was formed in 1943. In 1956, the name was changed to Ceylon Bank Employees Union. In the last eight decades, through unity and militant struggles, CBEU has grown into a powerful trade union in Sri Lanka.
Ceylon Bank Employees Union is holding their Delegates’ Conference at Colombo on 10th July, 2026. Around 1500 delegates from various Banks and from all provinces will be attending the Conference. They have invited AIBEA to participate in their Conference and accordingly our following Delegation will be attending their Conference.
– Com. B S Rambabu, President, AIBEA
– Com. J P Sharma, Vice President, AIBEA
– Com. M Jayanath, General Secretary, KPBEF
– Com C H Venkatachalam, Geneal Secretary, AIBEA
During our visit, besides participating in their Conference, we will also be discussing with the leadership of Ceylon Bank Employees Union about further fraternal programmes and activities like holding Joint Workshop for emerging young cadres of AIBEA and CBEU, our enhanced role in the Banking sector trade unions in Asia, etc.
With greetings,
Yours Comradely,
C.H. VENKATACHALAM
GENERAL SECRETARY
