# AIBEA and UFBU Call for Nationwide Demonstrations on 12 August 2026 Demanding Implementation of 5 Days Banking
**Date:** 5 August 2026
**Circular No.:** 30/17/2026/50
The All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA), along with other UFBU constituents, has issued a call for demonstrations across the country on 12 August 2026 (after office hours) in State Capitals and major towns and centres. The action demands the immediate
implementation of the commitment on 5 Days Banking made in the 12th Bipartite Settlement.
## Background
Following a massive protest strike on 27 January 2026, bank employees had hoped for a positive response from the Government on the introduction of 5 Days Banking. Despite the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) agreeing to the demand in the Memorandum of Understanding and the Settlement/Joint Note, and recommending it to the Government, the issue remains unresolved. The Government has instead asked banks to begin preparations for the next wage revision due in November 2027, while remaining silent on this key residual issue.
In the intervening period, NOBW and NOBO have distanced themselves from the UFBU process. As a result, the remaining seven unions under the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) — AIBEA, AIBOC, NCBE, AIBOA, BEFI, INBEF, and INBOC — have decided to take united action.
## The Call for Action
The UFBU has decided to organise joint demonstrations on 12 August 2026 after office hours in all State Capitals and other important towns and centres. This is the first step in highlighting the demand and seeking an expeditious decision from the Government. Further programmes, including possible strike action, will be decided after a meeting of the constituents.
All AIBEA unions and members have been requested to participate wholeheartedly under the UFBU banner to make the programme a success.
## Significance
This demonstration underscores the continued united struggle of bank employees for the long-pending demand of 5 Days Banking, which was formally committed during the 12th Bipartite Settlement negotiations. The action reflects the frustration over the Government’s delay and the resolve of the seven UFBU unions to pursue the issue vigorously.

**CIRCULAR No. 30/17/2026/50** 5-8-2026
To Office Bearers, State Federations and All India Bankwise
Federations, All unions
Dear Comrades,
**UFUB’S CALL – HOLD DEMONSTRATIONS ON 12TH AUG. 2026 DEMANDING INTRODUCTION OF 5 DAYS BANKING**
After the massive protest strike on 27th January, 2026 demanding implementation of the commitment given by the IBA in our 12th BP Settlement on introduction of 5 Days Banking, it was expected that the Government would respond in a positive manner. But unfortunately, the Government continued to adopt a negative approach to our genuine issue. Hence the issue had to be pursued further. But in view of our Conference and the adjourned session, the UFBU could not meet earlier to decide further programmes.
In the meantime, in the recent period, NOBW and NOBO, due to their activities, have kept themselves out of UFBU and the united process and are pursuing their agenda in their own way. Hence UFBU consisting of the remaining 7 unions have given the call for holding
demonstrations on 12th August, 2026 (after office hours) all over the country in the State Capitals and all towns and centres.
All our unions and members are requested to be in the forefront in this programme and take all steps to implement the programme successfully under the banner of UFBU.

With greetings,
Yours Comradely,
C.H. VENKATACHALAM

**TO ALL OUR UNITS AND MEMBERS:** Date : 4-8-2026
**Hold demonstrations on 12th Aug. 2026**
**Demand implementation of commitment on 5 Days Banking**
Our demand is known to all of our unions and members. After the successful strike on 27th January, 2026, we have been awaiting some positive response from the Government. Though IBA agreed in the MOU and also in the Settlement/Joint Note and the matter has been recommended to the Government, the issue is being unduly delayed.
In the meantime, the Government has asked the Banks to commence the process for the next wage revision settlement due in November, 2027. But there is total silence on this important residual issue of introduction of 5 days banking.
Hence it has been felt necessary to take up this issue and highlight the same seeking expeditious decision by the Government.
To begin with, it has been decided to organise a joint demonstration in all State Capitals and other important towns and centres on the 12th August, 2026 after office hours.
We request all our Unions and members to observe the programme with full participation. We shall shortly meet and decide further course of action including strike action.
Yours comradely,
C.H. VENKATACHALAM (AIBEA)
