UFBU’s call for All India Bank Strike on the 27th January, 2026:
The General Secretary reported on the developments regarding the
UFBU’s call for strike on the 27th January, 2026 to press our demand for
declaring the remaining two Saturdays as holidays.
The meeting noted that even though the IBA had agreed to the same with
an increase in daily working hours by 40 minutes, the Government is yet
to accord its approval for the same, even though two years have lapsed
after signing the MoU on 7-2-2023.
The meeting noted that already 2nd and 4th Saturdays are holidays for the
Banks since 2015 and the banks have been running smoothly without any
hassle for the banking public and hence declaring remaining Saturdays as
holidays will not create any hassle for the customers in as much as the
working hours will be increased by 40 minutes on the other working days.
The meeting felt that since the Government is not approving the
recommendations of the IBA based on the understanding with the UFBU
and thus denying the genuine demand of the employees and officers who
are nowadays working with undue stress, the strike on this issue has
become unavoidable and inevitable.
The meeting called upon all our units and members including in the RRBs
and Co-op. Banks to implement the strike successfully.
Call for General Strike on 12th February, 2026: The meeting noted
that 10 Central Trade Unions (INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC,
SEWA, AICCTU, LPF, UTUC) have given the call for countrywide General
Strike on the 12th February, 2026 against the continued anti-worker
policies, particularly, the unilaterally declared new Labour Codes.
Since these new Labour Codes will weaken our existing hard-won labour
rights and will endanger the job security and permanent jobs, the
meeting welcomed and endorsed the strike call and decided to
wholeheartedly participate in the strike on 12th February, 2026.The meeting noted that since this strike will be in immediate succession
after the 27th January strike, meetings should be held at all levels by our
State Federations and Unions so that all our members are explained of
the retrograde provisions for the new Labour Codes and the important
need to protest against the same and all our members consciously
participate in the General Strike understanding the dangers ahead.
